Memorable Fedora

I'm lucky enough to have most of my friends and family living relatively close by. It's probably something that I take for granted, since I know it's quite common to have to hop on a plane to visit loved ones.

That said, one of my closest friends from High School moved to New Jersey a few years back (several hours away from Toronto), so we don't get to see each other very often. Somehow, we've managed to keep in touch, and I love going to visit her, even if it's just once a year. You may remember I shared some photos from the last trip here.

When I make the trip, it's fun to spend time in the smaller, more rural parts of New Jersey, but I also love to spend time in Manhattan. I always feel like I can dress extra chic when I'm in New York, and I remember wearing my fedora on a trip I took a few summers ago. At the time, I didn't have the confidence to wear it on a "normal" day at home, but it felt like the perfect accessory to wear in New York!

On that particular day, we covered a lot of ground, and ended up at Central Park. We were innocently enjoying our walk through the park, until I felt something hit my head. After a brief moment of wondering if someone through something at me, I took my hat off to see what hit me. To my horror, there was a lovely splatter of bird poop on my hat! It was kind of hilarious (because I made a big deal of how much I loved wearing the hat), but I was still pretty upset it got dirty. I managed to clean it off, so every time I wear that hat, I think of that moment.

I've since added a number of hats to my collection, including this printed fedora, and this solid black one, but who doesn't love an old favourite?

  1. Love this look!! This outfit reminds me that I still need white converse in my life! Kimono is perfect and the hat is perfection! When I say something is my favorite (i.e., shirt, pants) ketchup, dirt, makeup, and in your case bird poop just seem to be so attacted to these pieces! So glad you got it clean because it would be a shame to have to get rid of such a great hat!

    1. The only issue with Converse is that they're brutally uncomfortable....but just so darn cute!

  3. I soooooo wish I could rock a hat, but they just don't suit me at all. Nor do white jeans. So thanks for making me want to smack you with my envy. ;) And gosh, I love that kimono!

  4. You really can't beat an old favorite. These kimonos are every where. I'm thinking they are most likely the perfect lightweight way to cover up a little in the summer. Everyone is styling them so differently too. Love it!
I always dress up when I head to Atlanta. I live in a super small town and definitely get the odd looks I've I'm wearing something kinda trendy.

    1. It's always so much fun to see how people style the same thing in a completely different way. I would imagine that living in a small town, you can't get too crazy in the fashion department without people thinking you look strange. I notice a difference where I live compared to downtown, and I'm not even really that far from the city.

  16. I recently purchased my first fedora and I must say I LOVE it! And I love the kimono--it's a very on point look for summer. The converse are the perfect shoe for this look. Also the bird poop story is quite a funny one--I was just in Chicago and one did that to my mom. Unluckily enough, she wasn't wearing a hat. Great post! I can't wait to keep up with you on Bloglovin'.
