Peplum and Jeans

I love jeans, I really do! It's funny though, because many women dread jean shopping as much as they dread bathing suit and bra shopping. I actually find shopping for bathing suits to be the worst, but I understand why people struggle with jeans.

Jeans, like most clothing, looks best on tall girls. I'm sure that with just a quick scroll through my blog, you'd realize I'm not tall. I'm a whopping 5'1" and proportionately, I have very short legs. If we're talking inseams, I'm about a 28" inseam in flats. Since most premium denim is around 32" or 34", you can imagine how frustrating that can be.

BUT. After spending years selling premium denim, I've come to have an eye for what will or won't look good on my body type. Even though I love a bargain as much as the next girl, I've come to realize that when it comes to jeans, you'll rarely find anything as good as premium denim. The cuts are often much more flattering, and the material is so much more comfortable.

A good pair of jeans are so versatile and won't be so quick to go out of style. This is why I'm much more likely to splurge on jeans, shoes, or a hand bag than I am on a sweater or trendy item, like a jumpsuit.

On my recent Girl's Weekend, my friend and I each picked up a pair of AG jeans. I've been wanting a light wash pair for a while now, and loved how they fit and felt. Their pockets give a great bum and they feel like yoga pants! Win, win.

I know lighter jeans aren't ever as flattering or as dressy as darker jeans, but they're still so versatile. I've worn these a few times since I bought them, and liked how a peplum top dressed them up a bit. I can't wear dark jeans all of the time, so it's nice to have something different.

Shopping for jeans: Better or worse than shopping for bras and bathing suits?

  6. You dress to your proportions so well. I never would have thought you were on the shorter side of the tape measure. :) Honestly! I wish lighter jeans were more flattering on me. You rock 'em, though!

    1. Ahh, really?! I always think I look so short in most of my photos...but then again, we're our own worst critics.

  7. I love the lighter wash jeans - I know they are harder to wear but they look so cute on you! I usually let myself spend a little more on jeans too. A good pair can last a really long time!

  9. I know what you mean-getting jeans for a 4'11 me is VERY difficult! I usually go to PacSun because everything there runs really small;) But anyway, love this look! Classy casual:)

    1. I've never tried their pants, but would expect them to run small, thinking about it. I'd imagine you have an even harder time than I do!

  10. I'd say shopping for jeans is worse than shopping for bathing suits and/or bras. But that's just because I hate pants. I have a very similar peplum top that has been neglected for far too long-- I'd follow suit and wear it with jeans, but it's just too dang hot to do that these days!

    1. Haha I know you're a pants hater, but I still think it's because you haven't found good pants! Totally jealous of that last comment...it's anything but hot here, so I'm wishing for those days when it's too hot to wear pants.

  12. I've never been a fan of peplum because I can't find one that looks good on me, however I love this one on you. Such a trim waist in this! it just kind of cinches you just so.
The jeans are great. Whenever I see light wash jeans I think of them as lived in, which is the best kind of jean.

  13. I'm just as short as you and I find premium denim fits me a lot better. Jeans or pants at stores like Zara, H&M, or Urban Outfitters are always uncomfortable and sit weirdly on my thighs + hips. Glad you got an awesome pair of new jeans :) The lighter color is perfect for the upcoming months of warmer weather!

  14. I have no idea that you are 5'1. I always thought you were taller. Anyway, not fair since I am still shorter than you, lol. Jeans as I say are not created equal but this one really fits you so well and the bum, yeah baby... Premium jeans really fit a lot better.
