Oh, Monday. Back so soon?
It's a new week, and almost a new month and the weather is still driving me crazy. It's nice(ish), but I feel like it's usually a lot warmer at this time of year. That said, the grass is finally starting to turn green and people (myself included) are making the best of it after such a long winter.
Today, I went for a nice long run (5.89 miles!!!), because two weeks from now, I'm running my first 10k race. Eek!!
I'll be participating in the Sporting Life 10k, which is a very popular run in Toronto. The proceeds go towards Camp Oochigeas, or "Ooch," which is a camp for children affected by childhood cancer. It's a cause that just about anyone can get behind, and this race is a huge way for them to raise money.
I've noticed a huge increase in charitable events lately. In May alone, I am running the Sporting Life race, participating in the Motionball Marathon of Sport (proceeds to go towards the Special Olympics) and volunteering in the Beer Store Returns for Leukaemia Bottle Drive. It's amazing that there's so many opportunities to have fun AND play a small role in supporting local charities.
My outfit reflected this same trend the other day. I was just running some basic errands in a casual spring outfit, but I was sporting my Visionary Bracelet by Stella & Dot, which is part of their Autism Awareness collection. Proceeds from the purchase of this bracelet go towards the Hollyrod Foundation. While I was out, I noticed the box of daffodil pins on display at Starbucks, so I threw in some change and sported a pin. By wearing a pin, you show your support for people living with cancer.
OUTFIT DETAILS:
What charities are you supporting in same way this season?
P.S. - check out my dog Ernie, who decided to Photobomb me here! <3
Cute outfit - loose jeans and converse seem to be a staple for me at the moment.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you're giving to charities in so many ways! Good luck with your upcoming race!

Thank you so much Jade. I'm excited and nervous :)
DeleteI would probably die if I ran that much, haha. I'm more of a sprinter than long distance

Thanks Jessica :)
DeleteI really love those white converse sneakers, and the pink sweatshirt is so cute and Springy. Thank you for your support of those affected by cancer. My Mom just conquered her endometrial cancer and it means a lot that total strangers care so much for her and those like her.

My first thought was "spring" when I saw the sweater in store during the dead of winter. Wow, your mom must be quite the fighter!! It's hard not to feel connected to any charity that supports cancer, since so many people either are personally or connected to someone who's fighting.
Deletelove your sweater so much!

Thanks, I loved how springy it looked when I saw it in the store.
DeleteLove that sweater! Good luck with your 10k!
ReplyDeleteThank you - I need all of the luck I can get, since it's a first for me....
DeleteWay to go participating in all those fundraisers for charities! And looking so cute, too! I am loving that fedora! The flower print is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was sold as soon as I lay my eyes onto the print.
DeleteGreat casual outfit! Good luck on your race! You are better than me at practicing! Before I ran a 10k I did nothing. Bad idea!

Wowww how on earth did you finish a 10k with no training?
DeleteFirst things first- Hi Ernie!! When I take pictures in my back yard, my two boys are usually at the door barking and losing their minds because I am outside and they aren't. Good luck running your 10K!! I run, but I don't even do races. They intimidate me. I tend to like to run alone, and the thought of running with all of those other people freaks me out. Don't ask me why.

Aww I laughed at your "hello" to Ernie. My boys both go crazy when someone is outside and they're not. I'm sure my other dog would have made an appearance if he noticed!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely nervous because I've never ran a traditional race before, and don't like to run with anyone either. It stresses me out to keep up with someone. I'm doing this one solo, so I'll just try to block everyone out around me. We'll see how that one goes...
cute spring outfit!
