The Return of the Denim Vest

Well, it's Monday and that means the craziness of another work week is upon us.

I had a really nice weekend, part of which I spent at a friend's baby shower. Talk about weird! This is the first of my elementary school friends to be having a baby and because she moved away, it was the first time I've seen her pregnant in person. It was fun to see her, and almost as much fun scouring Baby Gap for the cutest gift ever (and Target for gift accessories). Still, it's totally weird to imagine her with her own baby!

I don't want to get too "deep" on ya'll, but it's just so weird being in your twenties! I feel like all of my friends have something specific "going" for them, that the rest of us don't quite have yet. I've got friends who are happily married, engaged, etc, and then some that are further along in their careers, like I am. None of us seem to have it "all" yet, but here we are, all friends anyway. Amanda - I know you're thinking back to our chat at dinner :)

Out of my friends, I've always been that fashion-obsessed person, too. I guess that's why I'm the one with the fashion blog, right?

I don't really know anyone who doesn't have a good sense of style, but I think I tend to push the envelope a little bit more with how I accessorize, or buy into certain trends. Honestly, a big part of my inspiration comes from the blogging community. For example, my denim vest. I bought this last year, and it's a little bit retro, I guess, but it's easily one of the top 10 pieces in my spring/summer wardrobe. You can see it here and here, and I guarantee you'll see it again this summer. (Side note: Looking back, I love my DSLR camera even more! I'm sure you can spot the difference in photo quality from the old posts)

Today, I'm wearing it during a spring snow storm. No bigs.

  1. I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from. I live in Utah, where most people are married well before the age of 25... and here I am single. I donno you just have to come to terms with the idea that we all are on different paths and things happen sooner or later in life. I also think if I was married with kids I wouldn't exactly get to spend as much money on clothing :P

Love the vest, it would be perfect for spring with a maxi!

    Happy Monday dear!

    1. It's definitely a bit different here than in Utah, but I notice a big divide between country and city around here.

You better believe I have plans for this vest and a maxi skirt :)

  3. I need to pick up another denim vest. Mine is vintage, so the denim is kind of thick and can be uncomfortable in warmer weather!
I know exactly how you feel Jackie. All of my friends are just now having babies or getting engaged/married and I did all that...9 years ago! I had my daughter at 19 and my son at 21, both while in college, took two years off from 22-24 and went back at 24 to graduate at 26. The kids in my classes made fun of me for being so old! And I'm still not using my degree at all.
Everyone's life paths don't move at the same pace. They may criss cross each otehr, but don't feel like you have to catch up with anyone. You're doing Jackie, and that is just fine!

    1. Thank you so much for the sweet comment. I think it's so much harder for you to go to college when you're older, let alone with children. Even if you're not using it directly, I'm sure it was an amazing accomplishment for you. <3

  4. oh i love how you styled it. I adore denim vest and need to get me one again. the older it gets the better. Everyone is stylist, we just have different sense of style. Yes the pictures are amazing, who took your photos anyway?

    1. Thanks, a denim vest is so much fun to style (and almost as easy as a denim jacket).

I actually take the photos and edit them all myself. A lot of it is just about cropping and a LOT of trial and error! Oh, and getting "over" potential weird looks I get when people see what I'm doing on the street.

  5. These photos pop so much! I love the denim against the black! If it weren't for a regrettable phase in adolescence when I over-wore a denim vest, I'd probably already have one!

  6. Love your vest, great look..I'm 24 and I completely agree, your twenties are just weird. Everyone's trying to make something of themselves and has a totally different definition of what that is.

    1. It's so weird, isn't it? When we are younger, everyone is so much more on the same page, but it doesn't seem like that at the time.

  7. I like that you paired your denim vest with an all black look as it really makes it stand out. It's just crazy that it's still snowing when we're supposed to be into Spring.

  8. You're so cool, takng outfit pics in a snowstorm! Such dedication!
I think I know what you mean about no one really having it "all" in their twenties. I'm 24 and I feel like everyone feels so much pressure to get it together but if you think about the average human lifespan, we're still so young and have so much living to do before we are meant to have it all. And "all" means something different to everyone as well so who knows if we'll ever have "it" (whatever that really is).

On a sartorial note, I LOVE your denim vest and your hunter boots! Such a cute not-so-Springtime look haha. The blue accessories really pop! You look so cute!

    1. You know what it is? I had just pre-decided to take photos and once that decision is made, it's made!
The pressure from everyone around us is a bit source of the need to have it "all" in our twenties...but like, REALLY is that possible? I know looking back, it will seem like we're so young, but right now, don't you feel like you're not? haha

And yes to the weirdness of being in your 20's. It's so strange that after being pushed through the system at the same pace as everyone else, everyone gets to a place where they start doing their own thing at their own pace!

  22. Buying baby clothes is so much fun! My friend's sister just had a baby and we spent way too much time perusing through carter's for presents. I'd like to say I get the whole 20s thing...but I'm still entering that phase. Still, it is odd to see how much people have changed from the end of hs! Love the denim + all black. And props to you for wearing it in the snow!

  23. The denim vest is a great staple piece and looks really good on you!
What I find weird about the 20s is that you're stuck in this awkward area where half your friends keep talking about life milestones and the future, then the other half is stuck in time and can't stop talking about high school.

    Sincerely,
    Sabrina

  26. I can relate to being in my late 20s and not feeling like I have an 'adult' life yet. No career, or husband or future family... if I think too much about it I can get really stressed out! But we just have to keep on moving forward and keep in mind that things will happen in their own time and we shouldn't force something just to not feel like we are missing out.
