Cozy and Bright

Oh January, you never fail to bring both motivation and laziness at once.

It's funny how that is, but you know it's totally true.

I'm not even the type of person who sets out to create a laundry list of resolutions at the beginning of the year, so it's a bit strange that this pattern presents itself each year. I just find that a lot of the typical resolutions, like trying to eat better, need to come about naturally and not just because we start using a new calendar.

I tend to resist change more than most (or so I'm told by colleagues and other people I spend a lot of time with), but change is difficult for everyone. This is why lifestyle change needs to come gradually. It's only recently that I've noticed that I crave my salads at lunch, which considering I used to eat pasta almost daily at work, didn't happen overnight.

That said, even though I don't specifically make "resolutions," the start of a new year makes me feel more motivated to tackle the changes and projects I'm already working on. This is why I changed my blog layout, started to pin healthier recipes, and paid greater attention to my Fitbit app.

Then, a little while into the month, it gets cold (read: return of the #polarvortex), and I get...lazy!

It's so windy outside that the cold makes you cry and ruin your make up, the last thing you want to do is go to the gym, the malls taunt you with spring clothing, and well, don't you just want a big slab of chocolate cake?

My advice (if you want it), is to take advantage of those bursts of motivation and really enjoy the quieter, lazy times as well. Oh, and sprucing up a big cozy sweater with a bright bag can help with the winter blahs when you get tired of what's in the closet!

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Sweater - Dex via The Bay // Jeans - Joe's via Sak's Off Fifth // Boots - Hunter
Necklace - A market in Israel // Bag - J Crew Factory

Do you find you're having a constant battle between motivation and laziness this month too, or am I alone here?

  3. I've been wanting Hunters for a while... I'm not one that drops a large amount of money on things easily - particularly when it comes to shoes as I ruin them way too quickly - so I was just wondering how you like yours? Being from the UK, I'm sure you can imagine wellies are pretty much an essential!

    2. I hate not being able to take something back after submitting!!

I wanted Hunter's for a long time before I figured I should just get them. I really love them, so I'm glad I got them. They're sort of showing some wear on the inside, towards the heel, but I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

  4. Ah this first statement is so true! Come January I am so motivated to get things done and start "new" but then the weather just makes me want to curl up and never leave the house, haha!

  6. Gradual really is the key word. And sometimes, motivation comes from strange places: my floor decided to go all together to the gym once a week, and it really helped me with my resolution to stay healthy. I'm not the biggest fan of change either, but when it comes disguised as fun, it's easier to take. Btw, I love this blue color. I've not seen a purse in this shade before, and it's such a beautiful pop against the outfit and the snow.

    1. Having people to work out with is definitely a good motivator! I don't have a "gym buddy" but find I get more motivated in general when other people around me talk about working out...because if I don't, I can't be involved in that conversation!

  13. Great advice! That is so true about January. But if you ask me, it's way too cold to do anything. I literally avoid going outside as much as possible. I really hate the cold!! Great look - that sweater is great! Stay warm :)
