Accepting Winter

I don't think I'll ever really accept the winter and all the comes with it, but at least I've stopped living in denial.

Somehow, I've gone almost my entire adult life so far without owning a proper pair of winter boots. These were my boot of choice on very snowy days, but I really only wore them a few times in a year.

The only way it would seem even remotely acceptable to go without snow boots in Toronto, Canada is if you drive to work and park underground. I, on the other hand, have a much more complicated commute, which includes a 10 minute outdoor walk to and from the subway.

Now, we can all sit here and wonder how I made it all of these years without wrecking my shoes in the winter (seriously, anyone that knows me knows that I am insane when it comes to keeping my boots clean), or we can check out today's outfit. You'll notice that I'm finally wearing snow boots!

These boots were definitely one of the best investments I've made this season. I've worn them every day since I bought them. Seriously.

I usually bring another pair of shoes or boots and change when I get to work, but I figured they looked good with this outfit.

I bought this plaid top when I was in Florida a couple of weeks ago. I was on the hunt for a red flannel button down for a while, and didn't find anything that I was in love with. I ended up finding this one in the men's section of the J Crew factory store. It was an XS and the only one left, so it was basically just waiting for me to come into the store and give it a home!

  5. Yeah, I never really get used to winter either. It still kinda surprises me that I get surprised by winter every year. Circle scarves make my winter a bit happier though!

  12. Snow boots aren't an essential living in the UK - you can pretty much get by with a good pair of winter boots even in our worst weather. These snow boots looks pretty cute though. I like the layering of flannel shirt and long sleeve top underneath.

  32. I'm astounded you live in Toronto and got away without super sturdy snow boots! From the sounds of it though, you didn't really need it with your short commute. I considered buying those exact boots in the tan color for a few trips to the snow haha. Reason prevailed and I just borrowed a serviceable pair from my sister. :P

  39. Love the flannel and stripe combo, it's so effortlessly relaxed and stylish! I'm like you when it comes to winter footwear. My sorels go on after the first snow and they come off only once all the salt is gone. It's just not worth losing your favourite shoes!

  40. I love this whole look, but that scarf is amazing! I'd say the worst think about winter is dry skin. If you want to avoid it, make sure you have quality shaving equipment. We're a shaving company called Dorco and our razors are designed with lubricating strips containing moisturizing ingredients like aloe and lavender oil. Best of all, our prices are up to 70% less than leading brands. Read what others think about our products and our prices at DorcoUSA.com. Thanks again for sharing this great look with us!
