I consider myself to be a "trendy" person. Chances are, if you're reading this post, you are too. I'm not going to be sporting anything you'd ever see on the runway (body type alone prevents that), but if it's cool at retail, chances are, I'll rock it in some way.
Even though I like to be current in my style, I'm not very good at predicting what's coming a year from now, nor was I the first person out there to sport the skinny jean. Maybe this is because I don't really read a ton of fashion magazines, but I sure make up for it with the number of fashion blogs I read! I think this is why I'm so up to date about what's 'cool' right now. Oh, and frequenting the malls helps with that, too.
To keep myself current, I like to clean out my closet every now and again and toss what I won't wear anymore. However, on some occasions, something holds me back.
This brings me to Exhibit A - shiny textured leggings.
A number of years ago, when I worked in retail, my store got in these Buffalo leggings, which came in these crazy (at the time) patterns, and folded up into a fun make up bag. I literally bought them for two reasons:
1. It was a denim store and if I bought them, I'd be able to wear leggings to work
2. I wanted the make up bag
I wore the pants for a while, but eventually, they found their way into the dark corners of the closet. I've been close to getting rid of them, but I never did...and I'm glad!
Shiny and textured leggings are popping up everywhere and while I've yet to find the perfect pair of faux-leather jeggings, these bad boys have been given a new place in the closet. Who would have thought when I bought these that I'd be excited to wear them years later?
I decided to wear the leggings with my tweed blazer that I bought at Target in the spring. I actually saw the blazer on a blog or two and fell in love with it. Shortly after seeing it on a blog, I was at my Target and saw it on the sale rack for about $20. It wasn't in season at the time, but I snatched it up and have been eager to wear it since. It's definitely going to be a regular go-to this fall and winter!
Outfit Details:
Tank - Joe Fresh
Jacket - Target
Leggings - Buffalo Jeans
Necklace - RW&CO.
Belt - J Crew Factory
Purse - Roots
Booties - Brown's Shoes
Do you have any favourites in your closet that you're glad that you've hung onto over the years?
That happened to me when I worked in retail. I love classic preppy pieces but I fell into the leggings trend and bought a pair that were lace! And I still wear them under dresses in winter for an extra layer. I love yours, especially against the classy tweed.

I know leggings get a bag rep sometimes, but I love them!
DeleteI LOVE liquid leggings...so edgy and sexy :) Fab pairing with a sophisticated tweed blazer!

I think the tweed does a great job offsetting the trendiness of the tights---in fact, I barely noticed the shiny sheen. The last close up picture is great, because I really love the colorful strands that are woven into the tweed fabric.

Thanks! That new camera of mine really helped capture the details in the jacket. I saw some colours I didn't even really notice in person.
DeleteI love your jacket and yes you're totally rocking that leggings. :)

It's so awesome when you are able to rewear pieces you've almost thrown away! It always makes me hesitant to clean out my closet because what if something comes back in style!? Paid off for you to keep them -- they look great!! I'm curious as to how these become a makeup bag hahaa

I know, it makes it harder to throw away things that SHOULD get tossed though!
DeleteThe pants came in a bag, they don't become one :P
I definitely hold on to things! There are so many trends that come around every few years, so why not?? Love the look!

I love a good trend too but like you I don't go out and buy everything that's seen on the runway. I like incorporating a trendy piece with classic wardrobe staples instead.
ReplyDeleteI love your jacket - very colorful yet understated! And I really like the way you looped your bet!

Thank you! The belt loop is super simple, and maybe you can replicate it from the photo. That's actually where I learned how to do that :)
DeleteAh I love the jacket! :) esp. With the belt. Cute stuff! Have a good weekend!
