The Outfit No One Was Meant To See

Hi there - Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a really nice weekend and are gearing up for another week.

My week started off a little bit differently than I expected.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I have quite a long commute into work. I live in the suburbs and get into the city by multiple modes of transportation because it's quicker, easier, etc. I drive to the bus terminal, take a bus to the subway, and then have a bit of a walk to my office. It's about an hour and fifteen minutes each way, and while that sounds crazy, it's totally worth it to work in a place I genuinely like going to each day.

This morning, I was driving in, and was pretty early because I knew I had a busy day ahead. I was driving behind one of those big white "work" vans, and all of a sudden, I see a full-sized tire just coming at me. Even though this all happened in less than a second, I had a few thoughts running through my head:
a) do I swerve into the left lane and potentially cause an accident?
b) do I slam on my breaks, probably still hit the tire and have the car behind me crash into me?
c) do I swerve right to avoid the tire and end up crashing into the curb/grass and destroy my car for sure?
d) do I keep driving, and hope for the best?

I ended up just running over the tire because I really didn't have a choice. It happened so quickly, but it made a big thump, and then I stopped the car and had to figure out what just happened. I was fine, and got out of the car to look around. I didn't even see the tire because I think it went backwards! The woman driving behind me stopped to make sure I was okay. She thought the tire just fell off of my car. I thanked her for stopping, and she suggested I move the car (since it looked okay) and assess the damage when I wasn't in the middle of the road.

To make a long story short, I ended up having to pay an arm and a leg for a tow, a new tire, and a few other things, but it could have been a LOT worse. This was a reminder that driving is scary sometimes and you never know what's coming at you. I don't think I'll ever know where that tire came from, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Because of all of this, I ended up working from home today. I didn't have a car, and aside from not being in the best mood, it wasn't work the trek. I hate working at home, but love that I have the option when I need to. I was actually a bit sad because I really loved my outfit today! It was definitely one that had to at very least make an appearance on the blog. I walked up to a new spot I found to take photos, set up the tripod, turned on the camera, and then realized the battery was dead. WHOMP WHOMP.

Later, I went back to my spot, but by then, it looked a bit like rain....

...and after one photo, it just started to pour.

Alas, this isn't a picture heavy post. Sorry, friends!

I probably should have noticed that big dark cloud right about me...

...whoops, totally didn't. FAIL.

  2. I'm glad that you're ok! That's my worst fear--that something in a truck will come flying at me Final Destination-style and I won't be able to swerve. I hope the rest of your week is less eventful ;)

  6. Ohh, I hate when weather conditions don't cooperate for photos! Especially when we get all dolled up and can't even document it. From what you did show off, I absolutely love the colour of that blouse. Your overall outfit is so summery and cute on you!

    Sincerely,

    1. It's the worst when you're so prepared and THEN the weather turns. My hair is the worst in the rain, so you will probably never see photos in the rain from me!

  14. Ugh such a bummer! Glad you worked everything out okay though! Love this outfit, I noticed you said you set up a tripod... I am thinking about starting that as well since I don't always have someone to take photos of me. Anything you would recommend?

    1. I just use a random tripod that was in my house already. I'm not sure if it's a good one or not, but it does the job.

I put my camera on it, and then set the self timer and go nuts.

If I had to wait for someone to take photos of my, I think I would be much more difficult.

  17. I love that second picture, so cute! I've had a tire come at me on the freeway and it was absolutely terrifying. I actually just decided (choice D) not to swerve and hit someone else and the tire just bounced over my car. I consider that a miracle! I'm sorry to hear about your experience and I hope you're enjoying the rest of this weekend :)
